27th Annual SAGP/SSIPS Conference – October 16th-18th, 2009

The 27th annual joint meeting of the Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy and the Society for the Study of Islamic Philosophy will take place at the Lincoln Center Campus of Fordham University, in New York City, from October 16-18, 2009.

At the conference over 175 scholars will present papers on Ancient Greek and Islamic philosophy; academic societies devoted to Asian, Tibetan, and Indian philosophy will also hold meetings during the conference. The conference commences Friday night with a banquet and a plenary session at which Professors Richard Sorabji, Phillip Mitsis, and Katja Maria Vogt will address the question of whether Stoicism espouses a political theory. Concurrent conference panels will run throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Non-participants are cordially invited to attend conference sessions at no cost on Saturday and Sunday; non-participants interested in attending the Friday night banquet and plenary session are asked to register beforehand (for information on which please see the 3rd page of the conference program listed below). Reminder – Call for Paper Abstracts

Abstracts of Papers for the annual SAGP meeting at Fordham are due June 1! To present on an SAGP panel one must be an SAGP member for 09/10. Please forward abstracts to thorntonlockwood@yahoo.com, and SAGP dues to apreus@binghamton.edu.

The 2009 joint meeting of the Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy with the Society for the Study of Islamic Philosophy and Science: October 16, 17, 18, 2009, at the Fordham University Lincoln Center. This will be the 27th year that SAGP and SSIPS have met jointly. The original objective was to emphasize interrelationships between ancient Greek and Islamic philosophy; over the years we have branched out to include a wide range of topics in ancient and medieval philosophy, and we include panels on Asian philosophy and other areas as well. See below for the organizers of the panels in various areas. If you are not familiar with the range of this conference, ask apreus@binghamton.edu for a copy of last year’s program.

The deadline for individual abstract submissions is June 1, and we really want full information at that time: your name, your academic affiliation, the title of the paper, a one-page (500 words) abstract, your email address, your preferred postal address.

The Deadline for papers submitted for the meeting of SAGP with the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association in December 2010, for the meeting of SAGP with the American Philological Association in January 2011, remains February 1, 2010.

Call for Papers – SAGP at Central and Pacific APA

Greetings all. We need to have submissions for the meeting of the SAGP with the Central Division by AUGUST 1. (Our deadline to the Central folks is September 15: The meeting is Feb 17-20, 2010, at the Palmer House in Chicago.)

The deadline for the SAGP at the Pacific Division is September 1st. The meeting will be held March 31st-April 4th, 2010 at the Westin St Francis, San Francisco.
